How to password protect a PDF

Add a password to a PDF so it asks for it every time someone opens the file, with real encryption behind it. Free, no watermark.

Before you email a contract, a statement or anything with personal data, adding an open password means an intercepted or forwarded copy is unreadable without the key. Choose a strong password, share it with the recipient through a separate channel, and send the protected file.

The PDF is encrypted, not just flagged — the content cannot be read without the password.
